On the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, National Gallery of Modern Art organised a unique exhibition titled Shesh Lekha – The last poems of Rabindranath Tagore.
The exhibition saw a creative collaboration between writer Pritish Nandy and artist Paresh Maity.
Tagore’s poems, which he wrote in 1941, were translated in English by Pritish in 1973, and this time it was Paresh, who interpreted his words through his watercolour paintings.

“We got the idea for this exhibition in January this year, after Pritish suggested that I go through Tagore’s poems. He wanted me to translate their essence into watercolours,” said Paresh.
Pritish, on his part, recalled his long relationship with Tagore and said, “In the 40 years since I have translated the poems, I still look at them for solace and courage.”
